Well, friends, here we are. Two days past our due date and although everything is looking good at our midwife appointments, our little guy is giving us zero indications that he’s wanting to leave his cozy little home in my belly! (And I have said all along that I thought for sure he was going to be like his daddy – always ready to move on to the next challenge – and show up early! Guess there is more of his mama in this kid than I originally thought… HA!)
BUT I have also said all along that I would rather be ready early, and find myself with time to spare, instead of being surprised before we were “ready” (at least, as ready as you can be when it’s your first kid and you have no idea what you are doing!). So I honestly am super grateful for the abundance of time we’ve had to finish #allthethings, including finally sharing my faves from our maternity session (which my friend Kaitlyn Phipps took for us back in the last week of April!) here on the blog today!
After an announcement session and gender reveal that were FREEZING cold (and super windy!), I was so grateful that we had absolutely beautiful weather for our maternity photos – not too hot, not too cold, just a light breeze, and even a little sunshine glow! #praisehands We shot at Hotel Roanoke because (a) we haven’t done a downtown session since our anniversary session in Savannah four years ago, (b) I personally think Hotel Roanoke is one of the best shooting locations in/around the NRV, and (c) we realize we won’t be spending many nights “out on the town” once this little guy does decide to make his entrance, so we might as well make the most of the time we have before he arrives! (And I keep having to reassure myself, he will make an entrance at some point – no woman has ever been pregnant forever, and I will not be the first! … right, mamas?? hahaha!)
So, it feels super surreal to be saying this, but here are a few of my faves from OUR OWN maternity session!!!
One of the things I love so much about shooting at Hotel Roanoke is the variety of locations we have to shoot in, all right there on / adjacent to the hotel grounds! For our session, we started in the courtyard (above) and then moved to the breezeway between the Tower Bridge and the Hotel, which is probably where we got the majority of my most favorite images (keep scrolling!)!
I love this handsome guy so much … he has been the very best partner throughout this pregnancy, and one of the moments I am SO looking forward to is the very first time he gets to hold our little boy in his arms! I am legit going to turn into a puddle, y’all.
p.s. doesn’t he look so very dapper in his suspenders?! also, I’m a little obsessed with this tie + shirt combo.
This next one …. absolutely one of my top faves! It’s been the lock screen on my phone ever since our session!
I’m so grateful for every maternity portrait Kaitlyn captured of just me … I never want to lose the appreciation I’ve gained in this season for what my body is capable of doing! (Also, the light in this next shot … LOVE!)
By now, y’all probably realize how much I love adding statement jewelry and/or a hair accessory or headpiece to my own outfits when we have photos done … and also I was obsessed with the illusion back on this dress, so I love that Kaitlyn captured those details in this next shot on the right!
Aaaaaand I think this next shot might be my favorite photo of Jason E-V-E-R.
I never want to forget how lucky I am to be his girl (and now his baby mama).
Next we made a little pit stop in the Tower Bridge before heading across it and up to the top of the Tower Garage for a few last moments in glowy sunset light!
If you hung with me all the way to the end of this post … THANK YOU! Thank you for sharing in our excitement, and for doing this thing called life alongside us!
