chey + noah | sweetheart session at the seclusion

richmond-va-engagement-wedding-photographer

Okay, y’all, this session was super special to me (and SO. MUCH. FUN!) because of who these two are to us.  I have known Noah since he was in elementary school – Jason has known him even longer, and because of how close our relationship is with Noah’s family, he’s really like a little brother to Jason!  (Fun fact: I also photographed his sister’s engagement session + wedding earlier this year!)  His family is SO, so precious to us, and honestly, ever since these two started dating, Chey has just fit right in.  They’ve been dating for a few years now, and it has been the biggest joy to get to know Chey over that time, and to watch their relationship grow and mature.  Each of them are a blessing wherever they go, and Jason and I just love that we get to share life with them.

So when Chey told me she wanted to do a sweetheart session (and bring her pup, Burrl, along) I was SO excited to get to do this with them!  As much as I’ve had Noah’s beautiful sister in front of my camera over the years, this was my first time getting to photograph Noah and Chey and I could not wait to capture the two of them together!  Chey told me she really wanted a wintry feel to their session, with hints of Christmasy colors and patterns and elements, and between their outfits (LOVE their Christmasy plaids!) and the lovely setting (and the evergreens!) at The Seclusion, I think we totally nailed the look and feel she wanted!  Plus, they each chose to incorporate a cowboy hat into their looks and I’m not going to lie, I’m a huge fan of all the ways we got to be a little creative with those in their images!

Okay, without further adieu, enjoy my faves from Chey + Noah’s wintry sweetheart session in Lexington!

Okay, can we pause and talk about how BLUE those mountains look?!  GAH!  Between the blue of the mountains + those pretty green pine trees, I am kind of obsessed with the colors in this first location (aka the walkway up to the barn! haha!).

Let me introduce you to Chey’s pup, Burrl!

Okay, y’all, this next shot on the right … so adorable, and completely unscripted.  Burrl sat there all on his own, looking right at me between the two of them, and of course I *had* to take advantage of it!  It’s one of my favorites of him from the whole session!

I’m basically obsessed with every part of this next image … love the joy happening between the two of them, love the glowy light, love the pine trees in the foreground and background, and love those blue mountains!!!  all. the. heart eyes!!!

Another one of my faves with Burrl … he was so happy to be held up close to their faces!!

The lower the sun got in the sky, the bluer the mountains looked … just before we lost the glow, we did a few twirling shots and OH MY GOODNESS y’all, look how blue those mountains were!!!

Because The Seclusion is surrounded by mountains, we lost direct sunlight well before our actual sunset time, which meant that we actually got the best of both worlds as far as light – we started out with bright, glowy light at the beginning and had soft, creamy light for the second half of our session (and their second outfits).  And y’all, honestly, I love them both so much that I kiiiiiind of can’t decide which half of their session was my favorite!

Remember how I said I loved getting creative with their hats??  I love both of these next shots, but especially this one of Noah on the right!

Okay, FAVE traditional, everyone-smiling-at-the-camera portrait coming up next!  Gosh, these two could. not. get. any. CUTER!

One of the things Chey loved about The Seclusion (and part of why she picked it for their location!) was the gorgeous barn on the property – and specifically, this grand entrance (aka those DOORS!)!  But we had to wait until the very end of our session, when the light was softest, to be able to shoot here – and I’m so glad these two trusted me with that decision, because this light at the very end of our session was so perfect!

We also needed soft light to be able to shoot at the ceremony site – with that wide mountain view (in this next shot on the right), but again – SO WORTH IT!

(Also, isn’t Chey the cutest??)
