The week before our scheduled session date, the weather forecast for Crystal + Jason’s maternity session showed a chance of rain, and possibly even snow (!) for our date. But, as often happens here in southwest Virginia, that changed and by the day of our session, the forecast was just showing cloud cover and a little bit of a chill in the air. By the time we started shooting, though, the temperature had actually warmed up quite a bit and it ended up being just a lovely, cloudy fall afternoon for a shoot! (Is it just me, or does anyone else think those wispy clouds in the sky are pretty in their own way, even if they aren’t the same as sunshiney glow?!)

After the pandemic hit and both of them were able to work remotely indefinitely, they decided to pick up and move to the mountains – so it was a no-brainer that Crystal + Jason chose to have their maternity session on their property where they live. Not only do they have pretty SWVA mountain views (and the fall leaves were showing off for us on their session date!), but I love that their location will always give their photos a little bit of extra sentimental value! 🥰

These two have been together for over a decade, and this baby girl that Crystal is carrying is their little miracle baby – which made it that much more special to be able to capture this season for them! This precious little Christmas gift they’re waiting on is one they weren’t expecting, but now that she’s on her way, I’d venture to say they’re more excited for her arrival than for anything that could possibly get wrapped and put under the tree! 😉 For now, though, they’re just watching that sweet bump grow until baby girl is ready for life on the outside!
