Oh, these two! To say Kristin + Matt were wonderful to work with would be the biggest understatement.
We all know getting married in 2020 has not been an easy thing for most couples – and these two weren’t exempt from that reality. Like so many couples this year, Kristin + Matt were forced to reschedule their wedding date, and in their case, that meant that they had to find a new photographer because their original photographer wasn’t available on their new wedding date! As much as I wish they’d never had to go through that process, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t happy that their path ended up crossing mine! 😉
We were able to squeeze in an engagement session together the week of their original wedding date, and I knew after that evening that their wedding was going to be SO. MUCH. FUN. – because these two are so much fun together. Matt never misses an opportunity for an amusing quip, and Kristin is always quick to laugh right along with him. And their bridal party and family were every bit as fun-loving and laid-back as the bride + groom.
But I think the thing I loved most about these two was the fact that they weren’t going to let adversity steal their joy. From having to navigate rescheduling a wedding and re-booking vendors, to facing a very real thunderstorm threat during their ceremony, they just took on each challenge with a smile, because this was their wedding day and they just weren’t going to let anything ruin it! And thank goodness they chose to do a First Look, because we were able to get SO MANY amazing portraits in before the rain started coming down! (And we still took a few portraits in the rain, too, because these two are just that awesome!)
Y’all, I won’t ramble on anymore – enjoy my favorites from Kristin + Matt’s stunner of a wedding day in the Virginia mountains!
All three of their rings are so photogenic!!
I loved how classic Kristin’s bridal style was – from her pointed-toe flats to the beautiful lace detailing on her dress!!
FAVE ring shot on the invitation right here:
Love these next two shots – each of them getting ready to see the other one for the first time on their wedding day!
Aaaaand I’m obsessed with this bridal portrait of Kristin coming up on the right! (Also, can we all agree that veils make for some of the most romantic bridal portraits?!)
These two chose to have a First Look together, and I’m SO glad they did! Because of the rain that ended up happening later in the day, having a First Look meant we didn’t have to stress about getting bridal party and bride and groom photos ALL done after the ceremony, racing against the thunderstorm that was moving toward us!
(Plus, Matt was super eager to see Kristin’s full bridal look, and I love the shots we got of him taking it all in!)
Then, y’all, we KILLED IT with their pre-ceremony bride and groom portraits! Literally, these were a dream… their classic bride + groom style, her cathedral veil, and the most beautiful light streaming through the trees – I could have stayed here all day.
Did I mention Kristin’s veil could. not. have. been. more. perfect. for these epic veil shots?!? HEAVENS, y’all, I can’t even.
Oh, I love this next one so much!!!
Special thanks to Carissa DiVant for being an amazing second shooter + veil fluffer! These shots wouldn’t have been possible without her!
Aaaaand another veil fave. Literally cannot get enough of these!
I love how quick these two are to smile together … the biggest, most genuine smiles … over and over. I’ll tell you what, it sure does make my job easy. 😉
Then it was time for the crew to join in!
Matt’s dad was his best man, and after about 2 minutes around him, it was clear where Matt gets his hilarious sense of humor from!
I love, love, love the soft colors Kristin chose for the girls’ dresses and the florals! Don’t they just compliment each other so well??
I LOVE this stunning bridal portrait of Kristin coming up! (Okay, and I’d say Matt cleaned up pretty good, too.) 😉
Both of Matt’s sisters were bridesmaids, and it was so obvious as the day went on that Kristin was already part of the sisterhood, and the wedding just made it official!
For as much as Kristin’s bridal style was incredibly classic and timeless, Matt’s groom style was equally so. I love this next shot of his tux + bout.
Love this next shot of the girls!
Good grief, this was one stunner of a bridal party, am I right?? (Also, they were all such good sports for me!)
Next up: time to get married!
(Also, this is about the time we started to see dark gray thunderstorm clouds in the distance … which may have looked ominous, but can I be honest? The cloud cover gave us perfect, soft light for this ceremony site – and also some epic skies!)
The ring bearer’s daddy and the flower girl’s daddy had to help them each down the aisle, and I’m not going to lie, it was super cute.
Okay, so remember the thunderstorm? It held off just long enough for us to finish up family formals (in front of those gorgeous mountains) AND to take a handful of the most EPIC bride and groom portraits!
Just see for yourself…
Kristin told me she loved the traditional, both-looking-at-the-camera shots from their engagement session … Kristin, I think this next one will be a fave for you!
These two were TROOPERS and even shot through the first few sprinkles, but once we realized we were in for a downpour, we ducked for cover and then headed down to cocktail hour!
I loved how quintessentially summer everything was about this day – I mean, y’all, the cake had fresh berries on it! It doesn’t get much more summer than that!
Loved their favors and the favor display!
Okay, are you ready for what is possibly my most favorite detail about Kristin + Matt’s reception?! They had signature cocktails … named after their pups, Leo and Lexi! And a custom bar menu sign to show them off!
Okay, my second-favorite reception detail? The s’mores bar. (Because if you know me, you know I get as excited about s’mores as a 5-year-old. And I’m not ashamed of that.)
Remember how I said these two were troopers?? We had built in some time during the reception to sneak out for sunset portraits, and even though we couldn’t actually see the sun anymore … and it was still raining on and off … these two were 100% up for more portraits, and I’m so glad they were! I love how much variety we were able to get in bride + groom portraits of these two!
(Also, show of hands from those who agree that clear bubble umbrellas make rainy-day portraits extra romantic??)
This next wide shot is Carissa’s and I’m SO in love with it!!
Y’all know I can’t resist a few slow dancing + twirling shots if I’ve got extra portrait time on a wedding day!
Aaaaand I’m obsessed with these rainy shots in black + white …
After that, the party was ON. This dance floor got good use at this party.
Kristin, Matt, I can’t thank you enough for trusting me to capture your day. I mean it when I say, I had the absolute best time celebrating with y’all and I hope you love re-living your day through your images!
