Ummmm, can you EVEN with this little guy’s striped suspenders?!  Because I CANNOT!!!

I have had the pleasure of photographing this little guy, and his mama + daddy, twice now (okay, three times if you count when he was still a bun in the oven! haha!) and I can say with certainty that I’ll never get tired of it!  They are SO much fun to work with (I mean, in full disclosure, she is my bestie’s sister) and goodness, have we made some magic together over the last couple of years!  So of course, I was SO IN when Kimberly gave me the opportunity to do cake smash photos for Sawyer’s first birthday! (Aaaand we also added some extra time for a few family photos in glowy golden hour light, because she’s a girl after my own heart, y’all!)

I loved the way Kimberly put together fall accents, but still incorporated blues and greens so that it felt more masculine for this little guy!  She got the cutest monogrammed pumpkin from our mutual friend (who also happens to be one of the sweet mamas who’s trusted me to capture her family for years!) – you can peep her little shop here!  And Crumbs & Crumbles of Winchester, VA crafted the perfect little smash cake for him!

Okay, okay, I’ll stop jabbering and show you the cuteness already.

His little grin in this next one … SO STINKING CUTE!

Little dude really loved playing with all those pumpkins!  He maaay have tried to eat them instead of the cake once or twice!  (See exhibit A, below …)

After he got comfortable with all of his pumpkins, we went ahead and got the cake out!  I love the cake topper Kimberly found!

He wasn’t 100% sure what he was supposed to do with it at first, but it was so cute watching him figure it out!

The aftermath …

After he filled up on cake (and we knew he was full because he quit eating and turned all of his attention back to the pumpkins!), it was time to clean up with “bath time” – aka a tin wash tub and bubbles!

You wouldn’t know it by these photos, but Sawyer wasn’t a huge fan of the bubbles!  Bath time didn’t last long, but if you ask me, it was worth it for these cute little shots at the end!

When our cake smash ended, we took a break to clean up a little and get everyone changed.  Kimberly really wanted some fall family photos, too, so we added some extra time to their session for a few family photos during golden hour (yaaaassssss!!!), and I’ve got to say, I’m super impressed with how well Sawyer did all the way until the end, and how much we were able to fit in such a short amount of time!

(Side note:  This worked out so well for us because we used my mom’s house for the cake smash, and we also used her road for our family photos!  One-stop-shop so Kimberly and Ben didn’t have to tote this little guy to multiple locations, and I think that’s a lot of the reason he was such a trooper for both the cake smash AND fam photos!!)

I mean, look how happy this little guy is!  (Also, this next one of Kimberly and her little guy, on the right, is one of my FAVES!  So, so sweet!)

If I didn’t know better, I’d say this little guy saved all his big smiles for family photos … and I’m so okay with that!

I can’t even handle this next one on the left … oh my GOSHHHH.  Also, he started actually walking on his own just two weeks after we took these!!!

Okay, peep his little bow tie.  I literally can’t even.

He was just the happiest little trooper for us!  (Until he broke down right at the end, haha!)

Kimberly, Ben, thank you so much for choosing to trust me to capture your little family again!  I am loving getting to document your little guy and it is such a joy to work with y’all each and every time!  HUGS!!!
